Frequently Asked Questions
What is SONS and what do you do?
SONS (Saving Our Nation’s Sons) is a mentoring program that mobilizes African-American fathers as mentors to empower young Black boys (ages 13–20) through faith, skilled trades, and civic engagement. We equip them spiritually, economically, and emotionally to become leaders in their communities.
Who can join the SONS mentoring program?
Our program is open to Black boys between the ages of 13 and 20 who want guidance, support, and opportunities to grow. No prior experience or special skills are required — just a willingness to learn and participate.
How can fathers or mentors get involved?
We welcome African-American fathers and positive male role models who are ready to invest time, wisdom, and care into the next generation. Interested mentors can apply through our Contact or Join page and will go through a short onboarding process.
What kind of activities or training does SONS provide?
We focus on faith-based mentorship, skilled trades training (such as carpentry, electrical work, and more), leadership development, and civic engagement projects that help young men give back to their communities.
How can I support SONS if I’m not a mentor or participant?
You can support by donating, volunteering at events, sponsoring a program, or helping us spread the word. Every contribution makes a difference.
How can I stay updated on SONS events and news?
You can subscribe to our free email newsletter, follow us on social media, or check our website’s event calendar for upcoming activities and opportunities.
